How To Keep Your Henry/Hetty Hoover Clean and Well-maintained

Henry Hoover is a well-trusted brand of vacuum cleaner, as an estimated 20,000 Henrys are sold every week in the UK and around 10 million have been sold since it first launched back in 1981. Almost everyone has used a Henry Hoover in their lifetime, as it is solid and robust with guaranteed results, at a competitive price. But with every appliance, the best way to get long-lasting results is to clean and maintain the vacuum regularly. We’ve compiled a list of some of the best ways to do this, helping you to get more for your money.

Empty the bag

This may seem obvious, but overloading the vacuum bag will damage the functionality of the appliance. If the bag gets too full, this will put a strain on the motor, resulting in a loss of suction. It depends on how often you use the vacuum, but it’s recommended that you change the bag every six months.

Clean the filter

When your vacuum filter is blocked up with dirt, your vacuum has to work harder to extract and eliminate dust and other allergens from the carpet fibres. Dust, dirt and hair can also clog the motor, leading to breakages in other parts of your vacuum. By just replacing the filter every few years, you’ll greatly reduce the risk of a malfunctioning vacuum that you’d then have to replace. We recommend using a HepaFlow bag rather than paper bags, as this minimises the dust getting trapped in the filter.

Unblock the hose

Overtime your hose may become blocked up with hair, pieces of food and other sizable items, leaving suction on the Hoover to deteriorate and unpleasant smells to appear. You can detach the hose and leave it to soak overnight in a mixture of baking soda and water to neutralise the smell and breakdown the blockages.

Maintain the cord

A Henry Hoover has a very effective cord system, as you can simply wind the handle round to pull the cord back into the Hoover. But with this method, sometimes it’s easy to be slightly heavy-handed with the cord. Ensure you don’t pull on the Hoover too harshly when you need more length as this could diminish the life of the cord. Check for any splits in the rubber regularly, so you are aware of when you may need to replace it.
